WORKSHOPS
HEY DANCERS! This year we have TWO TRACKS: Lobsters 🦞 and Lighthouses 💈! Everyone will be looked at to determine which track will suit your dancing needs best. If you are not at the group auditions, you will be placed in whichever track the organizers think is best. Audition times are: 6:30pm Friday and 9:30am Saturday.
NOTE ON LOBSTER TRACK: The Lobster track is suited for dancers who have been dancing at least 6 months, and/or feel comfortable doing both 8 & 6 - count moves without hesitation. This track will break down concepts for ease of learning.
NOTE ON THE CRAB TRACK: The CRAB track is a fast-paced, high-concept track for dancers who have been dancing at least 2-3 years, and/or feel confident in their swingouts and larger repertoire of moves and musicality.

COMPETITIONS
What is a Mix & Match Competition? Formerly known as Jack & Jill competitions, as invented by swing dance legend Jack Carey in the early 1950s, in this contest dancers rotate to partners randomly drawn. Dancers of all levels are encouraged to enter the Mix & Match (M&M) competition. The focus is on social dancing and improvisation. Leaders and followers are randomly matched and they dance to music they don’t know beforehand. M&M competitions are very popular in the swing dance world and are first and foremost about having fun on the dance floor while spontaneously dancing with a variety of partners. Participants will be judged as individuals in the preliminary round and as a couple in the finals.
There will be two divisions of M&M: Open and Advanced
FINALS will be during the band break at Swingin’ with the Fishes
PRELIMS will be Saturday after the workshops
Be aware this is a Safe Space.
